VALORE ESSELUNGA Esselunga adopts policies and intervention strategies geared towards respecting animal welfare. From 2008, Esselunga branded eggs no longer come from caged hens, but exclusively from indoor and outdoor free-run hens. Esselunga has egg brands that come from a dedicated supply chain where the chicken only eat antibiotic-free poultry feed. Only egg products from Italian free-run farms are used for the production of fresh pasta, bakery goods (snacks, biscuits, cakes, etc.), pastries, and gastronomy products prepared in our plants, as well as for other specialities (e.g. panettone, pandoro and Le Grazie branded colomba). The packaging also reflects our company’s sustainable ethics: all Esselunga branded eggs are packaged in FSC wood pulp, which can be recycled into paper. In 2019, 65% of Esselunga brand products used eggs from free-run raised hens: our goal is to reach 100% in the coming years. Find out more in the sustainability section of the esselunga.it website. OUR SUSTAINABILITY EGGS AND THE ENVIRONMENT Have you ever wondered what consequences your dietary habits can have on the health of the planet? This is an important question we should think about: in fact, as guests of the planet, we should always take care of it! Our food choices have an effect on the planet. The production, distribution and consumption of food leaves a mark, a real footprint on the planet. By following the Mediterranean Diet and eating some foods less often we can reduce this footprint. Eggs have a lower footprint than that of other foods of animal origin. They are foods with a high nutritional value and are economically sustainable due to their low cost.
