LEGUMES: AWORLD TO DISCOVER INSTRUCTIONS: Place 100 g of dried chickpeas in a bowl and cover them with 300 ml of water. Using a marker pen or crayon, mark the level of both the water and chickpeas on the bowl. Soak the chickpeas for 8/10 hours and mark the level of the chickpeas every 2 hours. After 10 hours, mark the final level of the chickpeas. Measure the remaining water in the bowl by pouring it into a graduated container. Use the kitchen scale to weigh the chickpeas. Note all the results in the notebook. WHAT CAN WE OBSERVE? How much water have the chickpeas absorbed? How much has their weight increased? We can do two tests: A | do this calculation in the notebook: “final chickpea weight - initial chickpea weight”: the result will show how much weight the chickpeas gained since the start of the experiment. In fact, dry foods increase their weight when they absorb water. B | do this calculation in the notebook: “initial amount of water (mls) - final amount of water (mls)“: the result will show the amount of water the chickpeas absorbed during their soaking. Did you enjoy this experiment? You can repeat this with other dried legumes! NOW HERE’S A GAME YOU CAN PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY. SUPER FOODIES LAB
